Baltimore Vision Walk
On June 12th, Kairali women’s Forum dedicated their monthly wellness walk towards VisionWalk, an annual fundraising event organized by the Foundation Fighting Blindness to support research to cure blindness. The weather was perfect and we had good attendance for this event with many families joining for a walk on the NCR trail. Even the cicadas couldn’t stop us from walking! We ended the event with a bake sale with all the proceeds donated towards VisionWalk. We were able to raise more than $200 and Kairali is very proud to be part of such a noble cause.

Shanti Bhavan Project
Have you heard of the organization Shanti Bhavan? You may have heard of it if you’ve seen the Daughters of Destiny Netflix documentary!
Shanti Bhavan is a non-profit organization founded by Abraham George, a successful Malayalee-American businessman and philanthropist. The non-profit is based in Bangalore, India and empowers children from India’s lowest socioeconomic class to break the cycle of generational poverty through education, leadership, and compassion. The school annually enrolls 12 boys and 12 girls for its incoming preschool class and guides them during the 14 years at the residential school and beyond.
This organization helps children become authors, engineers, medical professionals and more not only in India, but in the U.S. and around the world. Kairali of Baltimore Youth Committee is excited to support Shanti Bhavan by organizing fundraising events to collect funds for this incredible cause.
If any youth or adults are interested in supporting this organization, please let us know. Thank you!
Onam Celebrations 2021
Onam Festival – Mark your Calendars!
The much-awaited Onam festival that we all are awaiting is here. Since the pandemic began a year ago, we were all longing for a reason to celebrate. Onam is that time of the year when the cultural ethos of Kerala is in full vigor. No doubt that Onam is the biggest festival in Kerala. But there is a lot more to Onam than being just a festival. Onam reflects the faith of the people of Kerala, a belief in our legendary past.
Kairali of Baltimore is enthusiastically planning to celebrate the biggest festival of Kerala on Saturday, August 28, 2021, at Wild Lake High School. The celebration provides the Malayalees in our area a perfect opportunity to encourage the new generation of Indian origin to witness, learn, and appreciate these rich traditions, even while it offers the first generation to stay connected and cherish the rich cultural heritage, we hold so dearly amongst ourselves.
Please mark your calendars! Kairali cordially invites you, your family, and your friends to this mega event. You can look forward to our traditional Onam Sadhya on a banana leaf and cultural programs. Sadhya will be catered.
